On the afternoon of December 12, Shaanxi University of Technology held a commendation conference for advanced collectives and outstanding students in the south campus auditorium. Leaders of the university, including Zhang Shemin, Ma Zhengjie, Chen Li, Feng Xiaoming, Cheng Linjie, Liu Yong, Deng Fang’an, Wang Lei, representatives of enterprises that set up scholarships in our university, and Liu Tao, Chairman of Sinoway Carbon (Shandong) Co., Ltd. attended the commendation conference. More than 800 people attended the conference, including the heads of the member units of the Student Affairs Committee of our university, the party committee heads of schools, representatives of teachers and award-winning students.

The conference was presided over by Vice President Wang Lei and was held in two stages.

In the first stage of the conference, on behalf of the Communist Party Committee and administration departments of the university, Chen Li, Deputy Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of the university, expressed congratulations to the advanced collectives and individuals who were commended and rewarded, and expressed heartfelt thanks to all the teachers and student backbones who worked hard in the front line of student work. She summarized the work in the 2017-2018 academic year from eight aspects, including ideological and political education, stability and safety, study style construction, campus science and technology culture construction, funding and education, employment services, postgraduate education, safety and stability, and affirmed the fruitful work done by various departments of the student work system. She expected all the students to strengthen their faith, keep in mind their mission, and be stalwarts of the new era; and study hard, practice actively, and be a fighter in the new era. Besides, she hoped that the commended advanced collectives and individuals could play a role model, create new achievements and make new contributions.

Feng Xiaoming, Vice President, read out the commendation decision on the advanced collectives and outstanding individuals in student work in 2017-2018, and called on all students to learn from the commended advanced collectives and individuals, actively create a fine style of study, strive to strengthen the construction of classes and the communist youth league, study and work hard, and strive to become all-round high-quality talents.

The university leaders and guests present at the conference presented medals, certificates of award, and bonuses to the recognized winners of advanced collectives, national scholarships, academic scholarships, academician scholarships, and Sinoway encouragement scholarships.

Peng Yuanyuan, the representative of the commended advanced classes, from Class 1502 of School of Economics, Management and Law, and Yin Lei, the representative of national scholarship winners, from Class 1501 of School of Physics and Telecommunication Engineering made speeches one after another, saying that they should actively play an exemplary leading role and contribute to the development of the university.

On behalf of all parents, the parent of the award-winning student Li Lingjie from English Class 1502 of the School of Foreign Studies, expressed the congratulations to the award-winning students, and expressed the sincere gratitude to the leaders and teachers of Shaanxi University of Technology who have always cared for and helped the healthy growth of the students.

In the second stage, Liu Tao, an alumnus of our university and Chairman of Sinoway Carbon (Shandong) Co., Ltd., and Meng Xun, the representative of the outstanding graduates of 2018, donated CNY 300,000 of “2019 Sinoway Encouragement Fund” and CNY 55,000 of “Financial Aid for Impoverished Students” to our school, respectively. Zhang Shemin, President of the university, accepted donations on behalf of the university and thanked the alumni for their concern for the development of the university. Liu Baomin, Secretary of the Party Committee of the university, met with Liu Tao after returning from a business trip, thanked him for donating money to help students, and discussed follow-up donations and school-enterprise cooperation.

Later, Mr. Liu Tao delivered a warm speech. He thanked his alma mater for training him and giving him the opportunity to give back to the society. He hoped that all the funded students would always be grateful, cherish the present learning opportunities, learn skills well, and truly become builders and successors of the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

At this commendation conference, a total of 8,497 students received scholarships and grants of over CNY 24.8 million set up by the state, university, enterprises, and individuals; 10 outstanding young teachers, 44 advanced student collectives, and 2,353 outstanding students were rewarded. The university calls on all teachers and students to stay true to the original aspiration and continue marching forward, and achieve even more brilliant results in the new academic year.
